Transcript
Xhafer:

hello and welcome to last Time on the podcast for people who wanna

Xhafer:

watch all this Prestige Television but.

Xhafer:

Who's got time for all that?

Ben:

I ain't got time for

Xhafer:

I'm Xhafer

Ben:

and I am Ben

Xhafer:

and we are at season four, episode one of our watch through of Breaking Bad.

Ben:

Bad.

Ben:

That's right.

Ben:

We are now most of the way through Breaking Bad.

Xhafer:

right.

Xhafer:

We have crossed the halfway point in a mere five episodes of podcast.

Ben:

Mm-hmm.

Xhafer:

we are getting through this series real quick.

Ben:

That's, that's the plan.

Ben:

That's how this is supposed to work.

Xhafer:

Very true.

Xhafer:

I, personally am looking forward to.

Xhafer:

Our next, I'm gonna guess three episodes.

Xhafer:

I'm not quite sure.

Xhafer:

We'll see what the dice decide.

Ben:

That feels about right,

Xhafer:

Three or four episodes.

Xhafer:

I feel like I've been very consistently rolling, like

Ben:

high

Xhafer:

eights and nines, which is not necessarily high.

Xhafer:

The dice pool was chosen to be statistically seven and a half.

Xhafer:

Yes, has the average role,

Ben:

but like

Ben:

we didn't get a, we haven't gotten a three.

Xhafer:

No, but we also haven't gotten like a 12.

Ben:

That's true.

Xhafer:

So

Ben:

we haven't just skipped a whole season.

Xhafer:

Uh, we did, we skipped all of season one, but it

Xhafer:

was a short season compared

Ben:

to

Ben:

well, but we watched the pilot true?

Ben:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Ben:

we skipped the rest of season one.

Xhafer:

so it's been a bit of a journey, uh, just to check in before we get

Xhafer:

into the episode, how do you feel about this as a means of watching television?

Ben:

I have been shocked at how well I'm following along.

Xhafer:

You know, we mentioned this in episode or two ago.

Xhafer:

but I think that might be because this is just a really good show.

Ben:

Yeah.

Ben:

but also, I don't know it there have definitely been some bits where I'm just.

Ben:

Okay.

Ben:

I can clearly tell I am missing a lot of context here.

Ben:

There was more of that this episode.

Xhafer:

Yes.

Xhafer:

And I think that's going to continue to be the thing the farther we get.

Xhafer:

Yes.

Xhafer:

I expect that to be the case for most shows that we watch.

Xhafer:

Actually, the first couple episodes will make complete sense and then

Xhafer:

we'll start to feel a little lost.

Xhafer:

And then you've watched six episodes and you're in season four and you just

Xhafer:

don't know what's going on entirely.

Xhafer:

Mm-hmm.

Xhafer:

I do feel like other shows it will probably be worse for us on, I don't

Xhafer:

know of shows that would be better.

Xhafer:

At least not serialized

Ben:

serialized tv, like,

Xhafer:

which is what we're doing.

Xhafer:

That's the whole point.

Ben:

I mean, if we ever find, if we ever, uh, you know, decide to watch

Ben:

Baywatch, I doubt that there's going to be a lot of continuity involved there.

Xhafer:

Exactly.

Xhafer:

But then what's the fun?

Ben:

I will say Jafer.

Ben:

Yes, I am distraught.

Xhafer:

Distraught, yes.

Xhafer:

Disturbed.

Xhafer:

Perhaps, uh,

Ben:

this, this episode

Xhafer:

perturbed even.

Ben:

This episode hurts me.

Ben:

It cut me deep.

Ben:

Yeah.

Ben:

Where's my boy?

Ben:

Gomez,

Xhafer:

I

Ben:

Where's my boy?

Ben:

Gomez?

Xhafer:

I assume he's off in, uh, El Paso.

Ben:

I mean, maybe I need to know.

Ben:

Gomez is okay.

Xhafer:

He might be dead.

Ben:

That's if, uh, if he is not in our next episode, I'm going to

Ben:

be real worried about my boy Gomez.

Xhafer:

Well, we've got a bit to get to before we get to that

Xhafer:

episode, cause we still have to talk about season four episode one.

Xhafer:

And I didn't write down the name of the episode.

Ben:

falling towards Apotheosis.

Ben:

Oh wait, no.

Xhafer:

no, Ben.

Xhafer:

That's the Babylon five episode.

Xhafer:

We're recording after this.

Xhafer:

This one is season four episode one.

Xhafer:

Box cutter.

Xhafer:

uh, we open on the unboxing of the lab in a flashback.

Xhafer:

I'm wondering if every episode does this now or if we're just getting lucky,

Ben:

or is it a flashback?

Ben:

Yeah,

Xhafer:

Yeah, this is a hundred percent a flashback.

Ben:

think maybe.

Ben:

It could very well be.

Xhafer:

this slab was set up in the previous episode We watched.

Ben:

But we don't know what happened in between.

Ben:

Everything in there could have been destroyed and they bought it new again.

Xhafer:

That's fair

Ben:

because while it's setting up, the, chemist Gail, who is setting

Ben:

everything up, is talking about.

Ben:

the competition yeah.

Ben:

Wanting to meet the person who's doing this work.

Xhafer:

There's no way somebody

Ben:

to me like something happened, destroyed the lab,

Ben:

and they are building it again.

Xhafer:

There's no way.

Xhafer:

There's no way.

Ben:

I 100% believe that is

Ben:

what

Ben:

happened.

Xhafer:

It might not be a flashback as far back as I'm thinking, but this is

Xhafer:

not like Gail gets shot and then all of a sudden Walt is captured in the basement.

Xhafer:

Like, no, there's, I mean there's, there's, there's gotta be stuff that

Xhafer:

happens in between these two things.

Ben:

Oh, I, I

Ben:

completely,

Xhafer:

was in a previous episode.

Ben:

I,

Ben:

I, I think that

Xhafer:

that

Ben:

it went immediately from, because, most important thing,

Xhafer:

we

Ben:

We have a chemist, Gail.

Ben:

He is opening up everything.

Ben:

Talking about how great it is.

Ben:

Yeah.

Ben:

He is completely misusing a box cutter.

Ben:

You cut away from yourself.

Xhafer:

It's true.

Ben:

That is how I had a giant laceration on my finger one time.

Xhafer:

It is a problem.

Xhafer:

Someone else in this episode will experience.

Xhafer:

Yes.

Ben:

but, I firmly believe that this was a

Xhafer:

Walt and

Ben:

And possibly Walton Jesse were working for Gus.

Xhafer:

Mm-hmm.

Ben:

Stuff fell out.

Ben:

He brought in Gail.

Xhafer:

See, I was under the assumption that Gail is who Walt had

Xhafer:

been working with instead of Jesse like, so we talked about how he

Xhafer:

was gonna need an assistant, right?

Xhafer:

And how he was only gonna need three months to get this guy up to speed.

Xhafer:

And that was what the contract was for, that Walt took with

Xhafer:

Gus the last time we saw them.

Xhafer:

Mm-hmm.

Xhafer:

obviously the meth production's not gonna stop, so we pre, I believe

Xhafer:

I even predicted he's gonna get a new assistant to cook with Last

Ben:

I believe you did predict that,

Xhafer:

And I believe that is Gail.

Xhafer:

Gail is going to, is the assistant that Gus put him with and was

Xhafer:

trained him how to make stuff, which is why Jesse kills him.

Xhafer:

Because when they, when they learned that they were no longer required and

Xhafer:

that Gail was up to speed, the plan was to just kill Walt and presumably Jesse.

Xhafer:

I don't know how Jesse came back into things, but I don't think

Xhafer:

it really matters too much.

Xhafer:

I if

Ben:

it, if it is as you propose and Walt finds out, oh God, he's

Ben:

not going to pay me the $3 million, he's just going to shoot me.

Ben:

Yeah, okay.

Ben:

Jesse, you are the only person I can trust.

Ben:

You're on the outside.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Go kill this

Ben:

Go.

Ben:

And then we'll be the only ones who can do the cooking.

Ben:

That said, in this flashback, I did really appreciate, our new chemist,

Ben:

Gail, going on about how I can give you 96% pure, but this other guy can do

Ben:

99 and like, man, like that is crazy.

Xhafer:

I need you to buy a machine to even tell you how much more pure this is.

Ben:

I like from a, I'm working in a chemistry lab point of view.

Ben:

This guy's doing great work and Gus has to come as close as he can to.

Ben:

My man, we are making drugs.

Ben:

96% is good.

Ben:

Everybody else is making like

Ben:

Crap.

Ben:

96 is fine.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

He gets in a real tizzy about how pure it is

Ben:

and uh,

Xhafer:

Gail tells Guss he can't cut it.

Xhafer:

Yep.

Ben:

Yep.

Xhafer:

That is the first of many box cutter puns.

Xhafer:

Yep.

Ben:

Yep.

Ben:

But we also get, Guss saying some disparaging things

Ben:

about Walt in this scene,

Ben:

which makes me wonder what has gone down between the two of them.

Xhafer:

I think this is before they agree to work together.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

So that makes

Ben:

does

Ben:

Gus have this negative feeling towards Walt?

Xhafer:

I'm guessing it's more towards Jesse to be perfectly honest.

Ben:

I mean, that would make sense.

Ben:

But then we immediately cut two

Xhafer:

Jesse firing a pistol.

Xhafer:

That must have been our cliffhanger that was mentioned in our episode preview.

Ben:

Yep.

Ben:

he shot somebody right in the teapot.

Xhafer:

Somebody, yeah.

Xhafer:

Somebody's calling 9 1 1 about the gunshot.

Xhafer:

and we zoom out to reveal Gail is who he shot.

Ben:

right in the face,

Xhafer:

because last time on Gail was Walt's new assistant while he

Xhafer:

was working with Gus in the lab.

Ben:

Yep.

Xhafer:

As I've already established.

Xhafer:

that just, I don't know, that just clicks.

Xhafer:

To me it also makes sense why Jesse would want to kill him.

Ben:

Jesse doesn't seem stoked about this.

Xhafer:

and they do seem friendly this episode.

Ben:

Mm-hmm.

Xhafer:

So I'm guessing the animosity is put behind them at this point?

Ben:

yeah.

Xhafer:

yeah.

Xhafer:

It's just like, And there, I wonder what.

Xhafer:

Of how this ended like the previous season.

Xhafer:

Mm-hmm.

Xhafer:

I was really tempted to go back and watch the last, like 30 seconds

Xhafer:

to see if we know that he shoots Gail or if that was the big reveal

Xhafer:

Cliffhanger was who he shot.

Ben:

Mm-hmm.

Xhafer:

like was he gonna go shoot Gus?

Xhafer:

Was he gonna go shoot Gail?

Xhafer:

Was he gonna go shoot Victor or Mike or any of the other characters

Xhafer:

we've got running around in this

Ben:

is Victor, the other goon.

Xhafer:

Victor is the other Goon.

Xhafer:

Okay.

Xhafer:

Thank you subtitles.

Ben:

I, had subtitles on this time.

Ben:

that is how I learned Mike's name.

Ben:

Yes.

Ben:

but I did not know.

Ben:

I did not see a victor.

Ben:

which did, I was very excited cuz next after the, the shooting.

Ben:

Yeah.

Ben:

We see, Walt in, in the lab being, threatened with a Gun by Professor Hickey.

Xhafer:

Yep.

Xhafer:

Jonathan Banks.

Xhafer:

Yes.

Xhafer:

Great.

Xhafer:

Get

Ben:

r Rode in here.

Ben:

Love to see Jonathan Banks.

Ben:

Uh,

Ben:

I love the amount of crossover there is between actors from

Ben:

community and breaking bad

Ben:

to the

Ben:

point that Vince Gilligan was in community.

Ben:

The episode where they played the v h s board game with

Ben:

the crazy cowboy prospector.

Ben:

That is the creator of Breaking Back.

Xhafer:

I was unaware.

Xhafer:

Yes.

Xhafer:

Lovely piece of trivia, Ben.

Ben:

Also

Ben:

I believe

Ben:

We

Ben:

now have more episodes that involve Walt and Jesse at gunpoint than

Ben:

we have episodes that do not,

Xhafer:

I wonder if that's just generally true of the show,

Ben:

I don't know.

Ben:

It might just be a fun random happenstance of our style of watching

Ben:

the show.

Xhafer:

Uh, Jesse gets brought in and Victor updates Mike

Xhafer:

on Gail the next morning.

Xhafer:

Uh, Marie brings Skylar the mail, which given her habits

Xhafer:

brought up in previous episodes.

Xhafer:

Do you think she stole this mail?

Ben:

From my understanding, so it is a bunch of opened mail Yes.

Ben:

That she's talking about how the numbers keep going up and not down.

Ben:

To me, it reads as, Skylar is paying Marie and Hank's bills.

Xhafer:

Mm.

Xhafer:

I did not consider that.

Xhafer:

That makes

Ben:

sense.

Ben:

So,

Ben:

yeah, we have now hit the point where, Skylar using some of the

Ben:

eel gotten Gaines, is paying for,

Ben:

Hank and Marie.

Xhafer:

Marie.

Xhafer:

We know Hank's in trouble.

Xhafer:

We'll see that in a couple scenes.

Xhafer:

Yes.

Ben:

Also,

Ben:

the Aztec is outside.

Xhafer:

Yes.

Xhafer:

Skylar is surprised to learn Walt's cars in the driveway.

Xhafer:

She finds no evidence of him in the home.

Xhafer:

She takes the Aztec and moves it out of the driveway and down the street.

Ben:

Why doesn't she put it in the garage?

Xhafer:

Their garage is probably full of shit, Ben.

Ben:

Oh, okay.

Xhafer:

How many people do you know that actually park in their garage

Ben:

Fair?

Ben:

Um,

Xhafer:

besides me, and the only reason I don't in my current home is because

Xhafer:

I've got that weird garage door that's physically too small for my car to fit in.

Xhafer:

Yes.

Ben:

Which

Xhafer:

I hate.

Ben:

Yeah.

Ben:

Well

Xhafer:

it's the one, it's the worst thing about this house.

Ben:

It makes it made, it makes it so it's just your wood shop, so,

Xhafer:

which is nice.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Ben:

But uh, it was something where she's just driving it away,

Ben:

leaving it a few blocks over.

Ben:

But also, have you ever known anybody who was willing to leave a car

Ben:

somewhere with a key on the back tire?

Xhafer:

Oh, yeah.

Xhafer:

Oh, I know people who have done this.

Ben:

Oh my God, really?

Ben:

Okay.

Ben:

I do.

Xhafer:

we know people who have done this.

Xhafer:

I could

Ben:

never do that.

Xhafer:

same, same

Ben:

imagine being that just

Xhafer:

keep free.

Xhafer:

I have had to, I've had people leave their key hidden on the car in a

Xhafer:

specific place for me in the past.

Xhafer:

Like a, Hey, I'm coming in and I'm gonna need your car at 2:00 AM.

Xhafer:

Mm-hmm.

Xhafer:

Right.

Xhafer:

Whatever's going on.

Xhafer:

We worked l nights for a long time in college.

Xhafer:

Yes.

Xhafer:

Um, and so this was not unheard of or terribly bizarre, dear listener.

Xhafer:

But, I've definitely had it where it's all like, okay, I

Xhafer:

hid the key inside the gas cap.

Xhafer:

Or, and stuff like that.

Xhafer:

Mm-hmm.

Xhafer:

Um, it's kind of like tucked in a plastic thing in the back wheel or something.

Xhafer:

It looks like it might even be like, have a magnet on

Ben:

Okay.

Ben:

I have seen those where it's a little magnet case that you're

Ben:

gonna like snap into a wheel.

Ben:

Well,

Xhafer:

yeah,

Ben:

it, I, I just thought he left his key just sitting on the back tire.

Xhafer:

He might have, it's hard to

Ben:

Well,

Ben:

I'm assuming if he's in a situation where,

Ben:

he's just leaving his car somewhere while he is now at gunpoint in a basement,

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

He knew what was happening.

Xhafer:

He

Ben:

not super worried about.

Ben:

Well, what happens if the car disappears?

Xhafer:

Walt tries to talk, Mike and Victor into letting them cook

Xhafer:

in order to keep Gus's schedule.

Xhafer:

Victor just starts cooking.

Ben:

Yes.

Xhafer:

Over at Sauls, the staff is sitting in his office.

Xhafer:

When Skyler calls him, he's searching his office for a bug.

Xhafer:

I'm guessing

Ben:

what it looked like.

Ben:

this was a more unhinged version of my favorite scene in every James Bond film

Xhafer:

when he

Ben:

goes through the, the hotel room and finds all the bugs.

Ben:

it's in the phone receiver.

Ben:

It's in the, quilting of the headboard.

Ben:

this is just, Hey, suddenly, uh, Saul's ostentatious office is now

Ben:

his biggest enemy because there are so many places to just hide shit.

Ben:

Yes.

Xhafer:

Which is, justice-y if I had to pick a word

Ben:

now, do you think anybody is actually on to Saul or do you

Ben:

think that Saul is just panicking?

Xhafer:

Well, the next scene is him taking the call from a

Xhafer:

payphone, and after he hangs up, he talks about leaving the country.

Xhafer:

So I have a feeling, that Gus whatever, wrapped up Walt and Jesse with Gus is

Xhafer:

also presumably going to wrap up Saul, or at the very least, Saul thinks so.

Xhafer:

I don't think he's like bugged by like the feds or anything.

Xhafer:

I think he thinks he's bugged by Gus.

Ben:

Ah, okay.

Xhafer:

Possibly something was said in his office that was repeated to him.

Xhafer:

that kind of a thing.

Xhafer:

It kind of, it has the, a little bit of a two personal vibe and a two scared

Xhafer:

vibe to not be a very explicit threat.

Ben:

So now we get, Skylar at, what I Am is interpreting to be Waltz Condo.

Xhafer:

Yes.

Xhafer:

That's what I wrote down as well.

Ben:

And she leaves,

Xhafer:

we know because we see his car.

Xhafer:

Yes, yes.

Xhafer:

I was gonna say, we know it's Walt's condo because when she's searching through

Xhafer:

stuff, we see his tidy Walt Whiteys.

Xhafer:

Yes,

Ben:

we do.

Ben:

now it, is it a condo?

Ben:

Is it an apartment?

Ben:

We don't know.

Xhafer:

it's pretty condo to me.

Xhafer:

She pulls some shit to get in

Ben:

Yeah, I was, I was originally really pulling for my boy locksmith Adam.

Ben:

But then he cracks, you know,

Ben:

he

Xhafer:

as the pills and the fake heart attacks start Yeah.

Ben:

She lays it on.

Ben:

Oh fuck.

Ben:

Heck.

Ben:

Um,

Ben:

way past the point of why didn't you just throw a, a, a rock through the window?

Ben:

There's landscaping everywhere.

Ben:

Like you could have gotten access to this place so easily.

Xhafer:

I mean, it's just, I don't know.

Xhafer:

It seems like it's more trouble than it's worth, but, and also I have to assume

Xhafer:

that they are divorced at this point.

Ben:

It does seem like it,

Xhafer:

because legally if they were still married, she would be able

Xhafer:

to just show her ID and be like, this is my husband's apartment, but

Ben:

but it won't show proof of residence.

Ben:

It'll have her old house.

Ben:

True.

Ben:

Which is, I'm assuming what, what Adam was looking for was give me

Ben:

some proof that you aren't just a weirdo breaking into this house.

Xhafer:

Yeah, but I mean, I feel like, hey, this is my husband's hou place.

Xhafer:

You know?

Xhafer:

Like he has this condo to do work stuff and to get away

Xhafer:

from the F baby I'm holding.

Ben:

holding, but Adam can't pull up the lease.

Ben:

He doesn't know.

Xhafer:

Fair.

Ben:

so she rummages through a bunch of stuff and what does she

Ben:

find in the last drawer there?

Ben:

Jafa.

Xhafer:

a glass eye.

Ben:

Yo.

Xhafer:

Huh?

Ben:

Huh?

Xhafer:

Wonder whose that is?

Ben:

That is a very good question.

Ben:

So I'm going to ask you Jafa.

Ben:

What happened on her?

Xhafer:

I

Xhafer:

am gonna say that that glass eye.

Ben:

Comes

Xhafer:

from our faded thermite explosion in El Paso.

Ben:

Oh, okay.

Xhafer:

I'm gonna pull back to, uh, it would've been season

Xhafer:

two, maybe mid-season three.

Xhafer:

There whenever the El Paso thing was season three.

Xhafer:

I mean, probably,

Ben:

yeah,

Xhafer:

we don't know for certain.

Xhafer:

and that glass eye was like, From the dude that got exploded, and I'm gonna say that

Ben:

it's all that was left,

Xhafer:

it like it got embedded in like Walt's like car or something.

Xhafer:

Like the explosion launched it and it got

Ben:

blew through the Aztec window.

Xhafer:

window.

Xhafer:

Yeah, it blew through the Aztec window or something like that.

Xhafer:

Right?

Xhafer:

Like he ended up with this souvenir of exploding a dude somehow.

Ben:

All right.

Xhafer:

I, I know I'm so wrong right now and I don't even care a little.

Ben:

I'm okay because it now we have a running theme of shit

Ben:

going through the Aztec windows.

Ben:

Um, we know we know, uh, rock went through it.

Ben:

Now we have a glass eye

Xhafer:

that works.

Xhafer:

Marie gets home as Hank works on his rock collection.

Ben:

They're minerals.

Xhafer:

He's been injured.

Xhafer:

Do you think this is crystal healing that Hank is getting into?

Ben:

I think more this is his way of hyper fixating on meth.

Ben:

Ah,

Ben:

he, something happened.

Ben:

He has been clearly.

Xhafer:

What do you think happened there, Ben?

Xhafer:

Could you tell me what happened to her?

Xhafer:

Where, where did Hank's injuries come from?

Xhafer:

So,

Ben:

When we last left off with Hank, he had just gotten another lead on the rv.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Ben:

We know that Hank.

Ben:

in my, understanding seems to be turning down other job opportunities

Ben:

because he is hyper fixated on finding this, Albuquerque meth manufacturer.

Ben:

Yeah, my guess is, Hank starts doing some even more unhinged,

Ben:

Off the books, searching for this meth dealer, even more than just

Ben:

climbing on top of random RVs and

Ben:

peeping on senior citizens.

Ben:

And so he has gone rogue, he has gone off books.

Ben:

He's doing unlicensed, unsolicited, police work.

Ben:

Mm-hmm.

Ben:

So Hank is now, he's working rogue.

Ben:

He goes

Ben:

in, tries to, break up a meth deal.

Ben:

He actually gets really close to finding out its Walt.

Xhafer:

Mm-hmm.

Ben:

And then gets hit by a car as everybody is screaming out, trying to get

Ben:

away.

Ben:

And because it is a unsolicited stakeout, no one okayed it.

Ben:

he didn't have a warrant.

Ben:

He got fired

Ben:

from, from the atf.

Ben:

and so that is why.

Ben:

They don't have any money.

Ben:

that is why Skylar is paying for Marie's bills.

Ben:

And, this is Hank spiraling.

Ben:

I lost my job.

Ben:

I am now a broken man on a Halifax pier.

Ben:

Uh,

Xhafer:

of Barrett's privateers.

Ben:

Yeah.

Ben:

Um, and uh, the only thing I can think about is crystal meth.

Ben:

And so he keeps just buying crystals.

Xhafer:

All right.

Xhafer:

Over at the lab, Walter's critiquing Victor's Cook.

Xhafer:

When Gus shows up,

Ben:

well first we get to see the greatest piece of equipment in the lab.

Ben:

They got science, coffee.

Xhafer:

They do have science, coffee.

Xhafer:

I saw that.

Ben:

I

Xhafer:

I would love coffee out of that thing, but also be terrified

Xhafer:

to have coffee out of that

Ben:

It does feel like.

Ben:

But she can get a coffee maker for $7.

Xhafer:

I'm guessing it was all extra shit.

Ben:

I'm, I'm sure, but it's also,

Xhafer:

it's probably something that Gail had set up to be perfect, lean, honest.

Xhafer:

He seems like the type.

Ben:

Yep.

Ben:

But fortunately Victor remembers the aluminum.

Ben:

Yep.

Xhafer:

Gus shows up and he is the loudest stepper y'all.

Ben:

He is, uh, so creepy

Ben:

And scene,

Xhafer:

he doesn't say a word.

Xhafer:

We get this.

Xhafer:

Super crazy camera angle, overhead of him walking through the lab.

Xhafer:

That's so good.

Xhafer:

Walt is just bargaining with him, even though he's not saying a word.

Xhafer:

He places places the blame for Jesse, killing Gail on Guss.

Xhafer:

It was clear Walt to me at this point.

Xhafer:

Walt and Gail did work together.

Ben:

It, they at least are familiar with each

Xhafer:

other.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

but Walt chooses himself over everyone and Gail had to die for self-defense.

Xhafer:

It's honestly this that makes me convinced Gail was the assistant and

Xhafer:

it was a flashback before because he is not familiar with that meth

Xhafer:

at that time, and he is now it

Ben:

it does, this is some real gas lady waltz like, look what you made me do.

Ben:

I'm only hitting you because I love you so much.

Xhafer:

yeah.

Xhafer:

This is the Taylor Swift reputation era of Walt right now.

Ben:

I said last episode, I could listen to, Jean Carlo Esposito.

Ben:

I could listen to him, read the back of a, uh, a cereal box.

Ben:

Yeah.

Ben:

Even if it's just a maze here, he says nothing.

Ben:

And it is riveting.

Ben:

He is amazing.

Xhafer:

He's a fantastic actor,

Ben:

amazing craft

Ben:

We stand a legend,

Xhafer:

he just puts on some rubber scrubs, goes, kills Victor.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Washes up.

Xhafer:

Doesn't say a word the entire time.

Xhafer:

Gets up the stairs and is all like, so fucking cook.

Ben:

Yeah.

Ben:

Like I killed the other guy.

Ben:

What are you guys waiting for?

Ben:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Oh,

Ben:

and Jesse is back on corpse duty.

Xhafer:

Yep.

Xhafer:

Jesse grabs Victor's body while Walt grabs a plastic tub.

Xhafer:

Mike watches finally only helping to get the barrel upright.

Ben:

it's just like, come on man.

Xhafer:

man.

Xhafer:

They fill the tub with hydrofluoric acid, which dissolves the body.

Ben:

Yeah.

Ben:

That body is gonna be goo.

Xhafer:

And then they send the dissolving body and chemicals as hazardous waste.

Ben:

Yep.

Ben:

They also put the murder weapons in with it.

Ben:

Yeah.

Ben:

And they are lucky that floor is red because they are squeegeeing it off.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

They're like, mopping blood in what?

Xhafer:

We get to a hell of a cut of someone dipping a french

Xhafer:

fry and ketchup at Denny's.

Ben:

Yes.

Ben:

There is a ton of Denny's product placement in this and it feels weird.

Xhafer:

I've seen screenshots of like this show mm-hmm.

Xhafer:

That clearly take place at this booth in Denny's.

Xhafer:

Oh,

Ben:

okay.

Ben:

So Denny's seems to be a reoccurring, uh, fixture of, of the show.

Xhafer:

guessing they sponsored the show,

Ben:

but that feels so weird.

Ben:

Like, yes.

Ben:

Come to Denny's.

Ben:

Where, well, you're already on meth anyway.

Xhafer:

Oh,

Ben:

uh

Xhafer:

uh, they're in the same Kenny Rogers shirt.

Xhafer:

Yes.

Xhafer:

Walt still has its size sticker on.

Xhafer:

Yeah.

Xhafer:

Uh, Walt tries to, console Jesse about having to kill somebody.

Xhafer:

Do you think this is the first time Jesse actually killed someone?

Ben:

I don't think so.

Xhafer:

There was a bit of a to-do about it in season two

Xhafer:

where he might have to kill Tuko.

Xhafer:

Yes.

Xhafer:

And he had admitted that he had not killed anyone.

Ben:

I don't think he's made it this far without killing somebody.

Xhafer:

I think this is the first time he kills someone and he's,

Xhafer:

cuz he's clearly a mess afterwards.

Xhafer:

Right.

Ben:

Right.

Ben:

See, I think that that's actually because we've also seen Walt killed

Ben:

somebody, killed two people in our pilot.

Ben:

Yeah.

Ben:

And then is still racked with guilt about how they're going to kill tuko.

Ben:

back in season two.

Ben:

I think that that is just their way of

Ben:

trying to keep keeping these characters humanized.

Ben:

It's like, man, you guys have a body count deep enough that you might be a little

Ben:

laissez fair about adding one more to it.

Ben:

also,

Ben:

maybe I'm wrong, maybe it was something else, but to me it really looked like.

Ben:

Jesse is having a grand slam with Mountain Dew to drink and I'm just like,

Xhafer:

he's, he's the type that would not drink coffee.

Xhafer:

He's with no amount of sugar or

Ben:

It is either the yellowish sweet tea I've ever seen, or he was having

Ben:

pancake since syrup with Mountain Dew, which what we saw in the RV episode

Ben:

fits along with Jesse's dietary choices

Xhafer:

a hundred percent.

Xhafer:

they, they move the conversation to next steps, and Jesse is reassured by

Xhafer:

the whole, whole ordeal because Gus knows chemists who won't talk that

Xhafer:

Ken Cook, don't just grow on trees.

Xhafer:

Yes.

Ben:

Jesse is the only, like, he is really making sense here.

Ben:

He's like,

Ben:

it's

Xhafer:

it's very

Ben:

got us over a barrel, but we can make better meth than anyone.

Ben:

And he's going to make our lives miserable because he knows we can't go away.

Xhafer:

Yep.

Xhafer:

so Waltz is just like, he's gonna kill us.

Xhafer:

First chance he gets, and Jesse's just like, yeah, but he's not gonna

Xhafer:

have a chance for a long ass time.

Xhafer:

We're

Ben:

we're unicorns bro.

Xhafer:

Yeah,

Ben:

We

Xhafer:

we are.

Xhafer:

The couple on the cruise sending out drinks.

Ben:

Yeah.

Ben:

Like

Xhafer:

it is a whole thing.

Xhafer:

Walt gets a cab home and his car is missing.

Xhafer:

Yep.

Xhafer:

Skylar comes out and they talk in the driveway.

Xhafer:

It's awkward and they are clearly separated.

Ben:

It does seem to be the case

Xhafer:

over at Gail's apartment.

Xhafer:

The crime scene is being investigated and Gail's notes on cooking

Xhafer:

we saw in the beginning of the episode, are out on the table,

Ben:

and now I am forced to remember the immortal words of Stringer Pell.

Ben:

You don't take notes on a goddamn criminal conspiracy.

Xhafer:

All right, that's the episode.

Ben:

Good ep.

Xhafer:

So I'm gonna roll some dice here so that we can make some predictions, and

Xhafer:

then we'll go over all of our previous predictions and see where we stand.

Ben:

All right.

Xhafer:

All

Xhafer:

right.

Xhafer:

That is a nine.

Xhafer:

So we're skipping ahead to season four, episode 10.

Ben:

All right, so first we do our predictions for this one.

Ben:

Then we go back and recap to give ourselves points.

Xhafer:

All right.

Xhafer:

Uh, right.

Xhafer:

Yep.

Xhafer:

So, day to my daytime prediction is Saul changes his name to Sal and

Xhafer:

starts practicing law in Mexico.

Ben:

All right.

Ben:

My daytime prediction is, Walt and Jesse are going to kill Gus in an

Ben:

incredibly over the top fashion.

Ben:

They are not, he's not getting a Gail bullet to the face.

Ben:

Like this is going to be a production.

Xhafer:

my evening is we never see Mike again.

Xhafer:

Ah, I know he's in this show a bunch.

Xhafer:

I remember hearing that and like it being a thing.

Xhafer:

He was in this show, I think by the time we get to EPIs season

Xhafer:

four, episode 10, he'll either be dead off the show, whatever.

Xhafer:

He got his break.

Xhafer:

He's a working actor.

Ben:

my, uh, evening prediction is also about Mike.

Ben:

it is Mike kills a lot of people all at once.

Xhafer:

My primetime prediction, Ben, you're gonna love this.

Xhafer:

Gomez returns to finish the job.

Xhafer:

Hank can't.

Ben:

Yeah.

Ben:

Gomez, my boy, my primetime prediction is Walton Jesse blow up the lab.

Ben:

Okay,

Ben:

That might tie into the daytime prediction.

Ben:

It might not.

Xhafer:

I think two of your predictions are very finale focused,

Xhafer:

and we've got a lot of show left.

Ben:

Gus is making it all the way to the finale.

Xhafer:

I got a feeling he's gonna make it at least until the episode we're watching.

Xhafer:

Okay.

Xhafer:

If not farther, I'd assume he's gonna be the antagonist well into season five.

Xhafer:

He's too good,

Ben:

I mean, yeah.

Xhafer:

All right, so going over predictions.

Xhafer:

From season one, episode one, I said, Jesse's gonna get shot.

Xhafer:

Walt cheats on his wife and Walter's cancer diagnosis is incorrect.

Xhafer:

Now if we believe they're divorced and we see 'em sleep with

Xhafer:

someone else, he's not cheating.

Xhafer:

Technically cheating at this point.

Ben:

they were on a break.

Xhafer:

So we'll see what it's like when we get back.

Xhafer:

So far, none of these are true.

Ben:

All right.

Ben:

My, uh, season one, episode one, Skylar never actually writes anything.

Ben:

I believe we gave myself a point for that.

Ben:

my evening man, Bogden gets run over by a car in the car wash.

Ben:

It's a feelgood moment.

Ben:

I am sad we didn't see that.

Ben:

I firmly believe it happened, but I'm sad we didn't see it.

Ben:

And then Primetime Gomez is murdered violently by Hank.

Ben:

I hope that doesn't happen cuz Gomez is my boy.

Xhafer:

My season two episode one, Jesse accidentally spills a bag

Xhafer:

of meth because it isn't sealed.

Ben:

Three comes

Ben:

again.

Ben:

I firmly believe that has happened.

Xhafer:

Me too.

Xhafer:

just not on camera for us yet.

Xhafer:

evening is Marie.

Xhafer:

Comes to visit and steals Walt's hat and prime time is Hank catches Walt.

Xhafer:

Waltz cuts him in in the operation.

Xhafer:

Now, if Walt's drug money is paying Hank's hospital bills,

Xhafer:

is he cut in in the operation?

Ben:

No.

Ben:

Uh, I

Xhafer:

go either way on that.

Ben:

For our episode two, I had, Tuco ends up working for Walt.

Ben:

That does not seem to be the case.

Ben:

Hank chooses between Marie's Kleptomania and his job.

Ben:

He picks his job.

Ben:

That doesn't seem to be the case as well.

Ben:

And primetime, no one ever actually tries to turn Walton Jesse in

Ben:

every problem is only because of their own paranoia and naivete.

Ben:

I still firmly believe that is the case.

Ben:

Thus,

Xhafer:

I think, has disqualified you from that.

Xhafer:

I don't,

Ben:

turning anyone in.

Xhafer:

I don't, well, he's not turning anyone into the cops,

Xhafer:

but he's definitely a problem.

Xhafer:

That is not just their paranoia,

Ben:

but I believe that everything that is wrong between them

Ben:

and Gus is their own fault.

Ben:

Had they just been professional?

Ben:

Guss would've been professional?

Xhafer:

I mean, we'll see.

Xhafer:

I don't know.

Xhafer:

It feels like they know Guss was gonna try and kill them at the start of this

Ben:

I think that they caused enough problems, but them being

Ben:

shitty between each other.

Ben:

That Gus Now no longer has any tolerance for their bullshit.

Ben:

I believe that Guss is the, if you remember, arrested Development.

Ben:

He's the Wayne Jarvis of the, uh, the crime world.

Ben:

Okay.

Ben:

What if I told you I am a professional?

Ben:

Alright,

Xhafer:

right.

Xhafer:

My season two episode nine, predictions of the daytime and

Xhafer:

evening, I've already marked office.

Xhafer:

Correct.

Xhafer:

Which is they get an upgraded lab and Skyway finds out about Walt.

Ben:

Yep.

Xhafer:

Yep.

Xhafer:

and my prime time is, they lose the baby.

Xhafer:

The baby is still around, left in the car, so tbg, but yikes.

Ben:

Oh man.

Ben:

Okay.

Ben:

So my, uh, daytime Kristen Ritter becomes a problem.

Ben:

I firmly believe that was the case.

Ben:

I believe she's not a problem anymore.

Ben:

my evening, and I guess I now have a, a theme here.

Ben:

Mine was the RV explodes.

Ben:

I firmly believe everywhere where they make meth is going to explode.

Ben:

And then my prime time, which was immediately proven wrong, was, skinny.

Ben:

Pete is never seen, but is, called at least three more times.

Ben:

As we recall, the very beginning of the next episode, we saw Skinny Pete,

Xhafer:

and then my season three episode five predictions.

Xhafer:

Walt and Jesse bury the hatchet and cook together again.

Xhafer:

This has happened.

Xhafer:

Yes, I am scoring points.

Xhafer:

My evening, Walton Skylar, get back together.

Xhafer:

This has not happened.

Ben:

happened.

Ben:

No, I have not

Xhafer:

scoring points.

Xhafer:

Wait, that was my prime time.

Xhafer:

Sorry.

Xhafer:

My evening was Walt and Jesse's rift deepens leading them to become

Xhafer:

rivals on the meth scene I hold.

Xhafer:

This happened with Between Jesse and Walt and Gail, but we cannot know for certain.

Ben:

Mine.

Ben:

Jesse and Walt reconcile.

Ben:

I'm scoring myself a point for that,

Xhafer:

you should.

Ben:

They are both back in the rv, but to live.

Ben:

Walt's got that meth money.

Ben:

He got an apartment.

Ben:

Yeah.

Ben:

, and then Gus becomes a chicken magnate and leaves the drugs behind.

Ben:

That doesn't seem to be the case.

Ben:

That's why it was a primetime guess.

Ben:

so what have we got for this episode?

Xhafer:

All right, so we are going to be skipping ahead

Ben:

ahead

Xhafer:

two Season four, episode 10, salute.

Xhafer:

With a badly battered Walt still recovering from the fight.

Xhafer:

Gus drags Jesse with him to Mexico to seal the deal with the cartel.

Ben:

All right,

Xhafer:

so that will be interesting to see how that ties in.

Xhafer:

I wonder who Walt was fighting.

Ben:

Don't miss

Xhafer:

Maybe Mike.

Xhafer:

Maybe Mike got killed in the episode nine and we just don't see him again.

Xhafer:

I'm gonna say flashbacks don't count.

Xhafer:

Just getting that out there now.

Xhafer:

Just like I'd like to get out there, a big old thank you to Ripe for letting us use

Xhafer:

their song, goon Squads, our theme music.

Xhafer:

Still don't believe it.

Ben:

Still super psyched about that.

Xhafer:

They're touring until the end of August in New England.

Xhafer:

So if you live out that way and you like our theme music, you

Xhafer:

should definitely go see 'em.

Xhafer:

If you're not out that way, uh, you can find all their music on Spotify band,

Xhafer:

camp, all the usual places you find music.

Xhafer:

And thank you to Annette Lucina for your wonderful photograph of a TV

Xhafer:

we used to create our cover image.

Xhafer:

Thank you for making stock art and making it creative comments so

Xhafer:

that small time artists like Ben and I can do something with it.

Xhafer:

Appreciate it.

Ben:

All right.

Ben:

And we will see you next time on.
